Considered the "Jewel" of the Square, the hotel's history began in 1876 when German immigrant, Peter Kern had the building constructed to house his bakery, confectionery, and a grand ballroom.
The building became the Blakely House hotel in 1981 to accommodate visitors coming to the Worlds Fair, held in Knoxville the following year. A decade later, the property traded hands again, becoming the Hotel St. Oliver. The building is currently listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The New York Times calls us "less predictable", and we agree. All of our 24 rooms have been individually decorated with a flair for the past.
Here is what Lonely Planet had to say about us:
Hotel St. Oliver is like something out of a Tennessee Williams play, the 24 rooms have the eccentric elegance of a slightly dotty Southern belle, with Victorian wingback armchairs and thick Persian Carpets. Sit for a spell in the dim downstairs library with its crumbling leather tomes and gilt-framed oil paintings. Wind down with a night of music at the impeccably restored property.
Whether you are just passing through town, celebrating a special event, or cheering for our Volunteers, you will always feel at home with us. We strive to treat our guest as family, and our repeat guests seem to know something about that.
